Alves were born Rodrigo Alves on 30 July 1983 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to a Brazilian mother and her British father. Her father, Roserval Alves, hailed from a Portuguese family who arrived in Brazil in the late 1940s. They started with farmingbut soon expanded into retailing and shopping centres. When she was 5 years old, when her grandpa gave his daughter Barbie dolls. While Alves was assigned male at birth, from "the the age of 3 to four, five and six" she perceived herself to be female. She was a doll and interdressed. It is her belief that gender shouldn't define individuals. Alves was shy and bullied through her school years. Alves was bullied when she was a teenager because she had hormonal dysfunction. The excess estrogen in her body caused breast tissue growth. She and her family own a string of grocery stores located in Brazil which has made them prosperous, but as of 2018, Alves has not made any profit relating to the supermarkets. 10.
