Alves were born Rodrigo Alves on 30 July 1983 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to a Brazilian mother and her British father. Her father, Roserval Alves, hailed from a Portuguese family who arrived in Brazil in the late 1940s. They started with farmingbut soon expanded into retailing and shopping centres.
