Carey is a former fashion model. She stands almost 5'10" tall, and was sought-after by the top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. Her father was a prominent geologist and named Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. As a result of his career Carey was raised all over the world. While she attended the University of Colorado, Carey started modeling for a side. A representative of Ford Model Agency located in New York noticed her and offered to help. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France where she briefly resided in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning back to New York in order to pursue her modeling career. She appeared on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. While she was modeling, she was a full-time student, completing a master's degree of literature from New York University. When she arrived in New York she began to pursue acting. Her acting debut was an appearance in the film with Robin Williams in the 1986 film 'Club Paradise. Her hobbies include doing white-water rafting, skiing, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
