Awkwafina
American musician and actor Awkwafina was the first to debut her sly rap tracks that tackled sexuality and racial identities with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before increasing her appeal to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants in Forest Hills Queens. Her first experience with music came via the trumpet. Later, she began hip-hop and classical training. While in college, she took classes in the field of women's studies and journalism. In addition, she spent a short time studying Mandarin during her time in Beijing. Then, after graduation, that she switched her focus towards music. In 2012 her track My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success on the Internet eventually landing on her debut LP Yellow Ranger in 2014. The album included other popular hits, including the body positive Queef and the winking tour of her hometown NYC Bitche$. This song was also featured as part of Awkwafina's NYC travel guide published in 2015. Following her success as a singer and author, she decided to take on the role of actor. In addition to early shows like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films like Neighbors in Storks. In 2018, she scored breakthrough role in a few high-profile films like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. That June she issued the EP In Fina We Trust.
